~~“One minute to midnight

One minute to go

One minute to say good-bye

Before we say hello!”

(Bing Crosby, 1942)

“Hello again hello

It’s good to need you so

It’s good to love you like I do

I feel this way when I hear you say

Hello.”

(Neil Diamond, 1980)

Welcome Back to Movies and Music ~~ The 2017 Edition

As we "watch the old year die, with a fond good-bye, and our hopes as high, as a kite", we say, "hello" to another year of great opportunities to explore Movies and Music: A Guide To Turning the Classic Movie Musical Into An Interactive Event.

This year, it seems appropriate our theme is "Hello"(again).

All relationships begin with a greeting. In the classic movie musical, it is the simple greeting, or touch of a hand, that sets hearts to flutter, and love to bloom.

As we open the guidebook, we find couples (Bill Abbott and Connie Ward ~~Orchestra Wives, Tommy Albright and Fiona Campbell ~~ Brigadoon, Adam Ponepeii and Millie ~~ Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Jim Hardy and Linda Mason ~~ Holiday Inn, and Bob Wallace and Betty Haynes ~~ White Christmas), saying, "Hello, I don't even know your name, but I'm hopin' all the same, this is more than just a simple hello. Hello, do I smile and look away? No, I think I'll smile and stay
To see where this might go. " (Johnny Mathis and Jane Olivor, 1978).

Where it goes is where all movie musical go on the relationship Ferris Wheel. It begins and ends with boy gets girl.  For the classic movie, musical lover, as well as your clients, students, and family members, it is the journey through the loss of the girl, and the change in relationships, that is the most intriguing, leading   to those thought-provoking questions.

This year we delve deeper into "what?" and 'how?"

What lessons do these films have to teach about the strength, and resilience of these characters as they face periods of change?

How are some of these changes mirrored in our own lives?

What is it about the story, the characters, their friendships and love relationships, that makes us want to visit them over and over again?

How are these films relevant today?

Such questions will promote opportunities for  increased communication, engagement, introspection, reminiscence, and inference for all stages and many different ages, as you. your clients, residents, students and family members, “start the new year right" with Movies and Music.

Hello Again !
